Regular Maintenance is Essential
It is essential that fire detection and alarm systems are subject to periodic inspection and testing. This is to ensure that that should any faults be identified preventative measures are in place to rectify them, thus ensuring the reliability of the system. It is also required to ensure the rate of false alarms does not exceed the recommendations of BS5839-1:2013.
A single named member of the premises management should be appointed to supervise all matters pertaining to the fire detection and alarm system. One of the duties of this person is to ensure that arrangements are in place for testing and maintenance of the system in accordance with section 6 of BS5839-1:2013.
